The ASOIAF Series is Getting to a Deadly Point for Characters

During a press event in London last week, A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin, revealed that he is ready to do some hacking and slashing to some of your favorite characters – probably.

GRRM was asked if there were any characters currently still alive that couldn’t be killed because they were essential to the plot. He cryptically said,

I have a large number of important characters who I switch between to tell the entirety of the story, and that limits who I can kill. Sometimes there’s only one character who’s my eye in a particular location, and if I kill that character everything going on in that particular subplot is going to be lost. The way my books are structured, everyone was together, then they all went their separate ways and the story deltas out like that. And now it’s getting to the point where the story is beginning to delta back in. The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time. … Which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people.

Without giving anything away, it seems like GRRM is telling us that everything he has been building over several books is coming to head. What this means for the characters that have survived this long, we don’t know and it doesn’t look like he is giving any hints.

However, a few weeks ago he did admit some fans have already figured out how the series will end so maybe you already know?

Our advice? Stop getting emotionally attached. It will likely only end in heartbreak while George R.R. Martin grows stronger with every tear you shed.

The ASOIAF series has two books remaining (supposedly) with no release date yet announced for the next installment, “The Winds of Winter.
