A few weeks ago, long-lost (bootleg) footage of the abandoned “Akira” video game found its way onto YouTube. The video comes from the world of 1994 when it was captured at the 1994 Consumer Electronics Show.
The resurfaced footage shows the Genesis version of the “Akira” game. It appears the game was a bit buggy or the Genesis just couldn’t handle the mechanics as it freezes near the end.
The game would have been based on the iconic manga and was intended to be a first-person shooter with an emphasis on exploration while featuring several racing sequences. Before being cancelled, the developers and publisher THQ were planning on releasing the game on Genesis, the SNES, Game Gear, and Sega CD.
