During the (unfortunately) short period that the “Destiny” beta was active, over 4.6 million players participated according to Activision Blizzard. Both my boyfriend and I played the beta, and frankly it is not surprising so many people took part in just a beta.
The beta was available on Sony platforms on July 17, then hit Xbox platforms the next week before ending on July 31.
Pete Parsons said, the COO of Bungie, said,
“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”
Given the beta was glitchy and only allowed you to get to level 8 (and for me kept kicking me off the servers) we still spent hours playing it. If that is any indication of what the actual game will be like, you better believe we already preordered it.
“Destiny” releases on September 9.
