Tatiana Maslany is reportedly joining the cast of the upcoming standalone “Star Wars” film being directed by Gareth Edwards.
Not much regarding the plot has been announced so far but what we do know is that this film will be the first in in a standalone story arc within in the “Star Wars” universe and it will not fit directly with previous films. It has not been revealed whether the story will even take place in the same timeline as the upcoming Episode VII.
The role has not been announced but it is rumored to be lead role in the film. The spinoff film is also rumored to be a female-cast centric story which would definitely be a first for the “Star Wars” franchise (and much appreciated.) Also rumored for the cast is Rooney Mara and Felicity Jones.
Maslany has won wide critical and fanatical acclaim for her portrayal as multiple roles in the show “Orphan Black.” In the series she plays a group of scientifically engineered clones out to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Standalone “Star Wars” is eyeing a release date for sometime in December 2016.
