Clara Definitely Returning for Next Season of Doctor Who

Capaldi doctor who

After months of rumors and assertions that Jenna Coleman would be leaving “Doctor Who” at the end of the Christmas special it appears that her character Clara Oswald will continue to travel with The Doctor.

BBC remained mum on the subject merely telling fans they had to wait till the special, “Last Christmas,” which aired on Christmas day, to find out if she would return for the next season.

Coleman told the BBC,

“I get a whole other [season] of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved. There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other. The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.”

Peter Capaldi, the actor who currently portrays the 12th Doctor, commented as well,

“I’m thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with.”

“Last Christmas” also featured guest star Nick Frost aptly playing Santa Claus himself.

The duo will return in the next season with the first episode titled, “The Magician’s Apprentice.”

The episode will be the first episode for new Doctor, Peter Capaldi. So far we have only got to see him for a moment in the 50th anniversary special and then in the final minutes of the Christmas Special. This will be his first full episode as the Twelfth Doctor.

Jenna Coleman returns as the companion, Clara Oswald. Season 8 will also see new cast member Samual Anderson as Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Clara also works. Previously announced guest stars include Ben Miller, Keeley Hawes, and Tom Riley.

Along with the announcement of the premiere date, we also got a very cryptic teaser trailer. Check it out below!

Doctor Who World Tour Launches August 7

The tour will bring Capaldi, the D0ctor’s companion, Jenna Coleman, and the show’s lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, to seven cities across five continents in 12 days.

Beginning in the UL on August 7 and finishing on August 19 in Brazil. On Thursday, August 14, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will appear together for the first time in the US when they arrive in New York.

Capaldi was introduced for a brief moment in last year’s 50th Anniversary special, which was simulcast in 98 countries and released in more than 1500 cinemas globally.

“It’s fantastic that so many people across the world love ‘Doctor Who,'” says Capaldi. “After 8 months solid filming deep in the world of monsters, Jenna and I are thrilled to be heading for the Planet of Fans.”

Moffat also added,

“I’ve always thought we’d all be a lot safer if the Doctor conquered the world, instead of the Daleks. Now with Jenna and Peter leading the charge, it looks like it’s going to happen. I’ll be bringing up the rear to handle the exposition scenes, and maybe carry some bags.”

Richard De Croce, SVP, Programming for BBC American said,

“It’s a new beginning for one of the most popular series in the world and we couldn’t be more excited to have the Twelfth Doctor live in New York to promote the long awaited return of ‘Doctor Who’ on BBC America. It’s going to be epic.”

More details of the itinerary will be available soon at www.doctorwho.tv/worldtour as well as reports from the tour as it happens, which fans everywhere will be able to enjoy across social and digital platforms.

Doctor Who Adds New Villain for Upcoming Season

Ben Miller

“My only worry is that they’ll make me leave the set when I’m not filming,” Miller said.

Moffat also added,

“Mark Gatiss has written us a storming villain for his new episode, and with Capaldi in the TARDIS, we knew we needed somebody special to send everybody behind the sofa. And quite frankly, it’s about time Ben Miller was in Doctor Who.”

Miller has studied for studied for a Ph.D. in physics at Cambridge University. He has also fronted BBC2 science strand Horizon. He previously appeared on the television series, “Primeval,” and more recently as a detective in the first two series of the BBC’s Death in Paradise.

The official premiere date of the new season has not been announced but will release on BBC One later this year.
