BBC announced a while ago that the new companion for The Doctor on “Doctor Who” had already been cast but they finally made the official announcement this weekend! Pearl Mackie has been cast as Bill, the next companion though we don’t know much about her character other than her name.
The BBC made the announcement with a short scene from the upcoming season, introducing Mackie as Bill:
Mackie has performed in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for the National Theatre, and has appeared on a television show called Doctors, and in 2013’s Svengali.
The 50th Anniversary Special for BBC’s “Doctor Who” is SO close. As we inch closer to the premiere date of November 23rd, BBC has released two new trailers to keep fans satisfied for now. The special is entitled, “The Day of the Doctor” and will star Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman while seeing the return of previous Doctor and Companion David Tennant and Billie Piper John Hurt is also making a special appearance as the Doctor. This is the first time Tennant and Piper have appeared in the series since their farewells in 2010.
The plot for “The Day of the Doctor” is as follows:
In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.
This is a big year for the BBC series, “Doctor Who.” Not only is Matt Smith leaving the role to be taken over by Peter Capaldi, but it is also the 50th Anniversary of the longest running science fiction series ever. In honor of the milestone, BBC has been working tirelessly on an anniversary special that is set to air on November 23.
Now, we have an official trailer for the 75-minute special titled, “The Day of the Doctor.”
“The Day of the Doctor” stars Matt Smith, David Tennant (The 10th Doctor), Jenna Coleman (the current companion, Clara Oswald), with Billie Piper (a previous companion, Rose Tyler) and John Hurt (mysteriously known as “The Doctor”). This is the first time Tennant and Piper have appeared in the series since their farewells in 2010.

BBC Worldwide has officially confirmed that several BBC master tapes from the 1960s have been recovered in Nigeria, Africa. Included on the master tapes were episodes of the science fiction series, “Doctor Who” that were thought to be lost forever. In the show, “Doctor Who,” The Doctor has met his fair share of royalty (not to mention marrying the queen of England once) but in the real world the show was recently visited by Prince Charles and Camilla. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited the show’s set while meeting with the current stars Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, and Jenna Coleman, who plays his companion Clara, as well as some of the crew including Steven Moffat.
