After the massively popular “The X-Files” revived series on Fox, many fans hoped the series would come back once more especially after the frustratingly awesome cliffhanger.

Thankfully, according to Fox TV chair Dana Walden, the network is planning on bringing back the series again! Walden said that there have been “conversations” with both series creator Chris Carter and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as they work to bring “The X-Files” back for more episodes.

“Everyone is onboard to do another installment of the show” Walden said. However, Walden adds that it could take a while to get the next set of episodes together as all the players are working on various other projects. Fellow chair Gary Newman later suggested a new season likely wouldn’t be able to come together any earlier than late 2017 or early 2018.

Fox made it clear they wanted the show to be back. “The network and studio want more,” Newman said.

The X-Files Returns on January 24

We finally have an official return date for the return of “The X-Files.” The six episode limited run series will premiere on Sunday, January 24. The premiere will be a two night installment with the second episode airing on Monday night which will be it’s regular night during the run.

However, the biggest question is what kind of plot can we expect. Fans are wondering whether it would fit in with the mythology created within the original series, or would the revived series serve as a standalone single story much like the movies did. The studio said that fans could expect “a combination of episodes” featuring both new tales and callbacks to the original series.

Production is set to begin sometime next month, confirming rumors that shooting would commence during the summer. More updates will follow as information is announced.

Walter Skinner and Cigarette Smoking Man Confirmed to Return to X-Files

20150324_120940_The-X-FilesDuring a recent interview on “Letterman,” David Duchovny revealed several details regarding the upcoming “X-Files” revival.

Duchovny played Agent Mulder alongside Gillian Anderson as Agent Scully in popular series in the 90’s. The revival has confirmed the return in a limited six episode run feature both actors returning in their roles. It was also revealed that we will also see the return on Mitch Pileggi as FBI assistant director Mike Skinner as well as an appearance by the arch nemesis and ex-member of the Syndicate, the Cigarette Smoking Man (played by William B. Davis).

In the original series Skinner typically acted as the voice of reason behind Mulder and Scully, often following orders from higher powers to dissolve unsolvable cases of paranormal phenomenon. Toward the end of the show, he came around to see things more clearly and often partnered with Mulder and Scully to get certain cases solved. Meanwhile, the CSM was behind the cover-up to every major case, especially those involving extraterrestrial activity.

How large of a role both of these characters will play in the revival has not been announced though and Duchovny did not say more than that they would appear.

The six episode run will premiere sometime next year on Fox and is expected to begin filming later this year. The show will return to its original shooting location in Vancouver where the program first began production before later moving to Los Angeles.

FOX CONFIRMS! “The X-Files” is returning and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will also return to star. (Now if only we can get “Firefly” back on the air guys!)

“The X-Files” ran for 9 seasons back in the 90’s beginning in 1993. According to Fox, it will return for a six-part miniseries with Agent Mulder and Agent Scully as well as show creator Chris Carter.

Carter said,

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Fox Television Chairman Dana Waldman and CEO Gary Newman also released a statement confirming the news.

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files—one of the most rewarding, creative experiences of our careers—and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” they said.

Production is set to begin this summer, though no premiere date has been announced.
