Now that the HBO series, “Game of Thrones” has caught up and basically surpassed the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire of which it is based, some readers may be less enticed to read the forthcoming novel. (I mean let’s be real, this may not have happened had author George R.R. Martin not taken 5 plus years to write the upcoming novel “The Winds of Winter” which we still have no idea when it is coming out.)
However, GRRM has announced that he will be putting a “twist” in the upcoming final two novels that is a diversion from the series on HBO. He claims this diversion is because certain life-and-death plot changes in the show have already begun.
“It involves a couple of characters, one of whom is dead on the show but not dead in the books,” Martin said, in the course of the 25-minute interview with IGN. “The show can’t do this stuff, because they killed a character that I have not killed.”
It is hard to figure out who exactly may get the axe considering there are at least 15 characters who fit the description but as with most things there is a Reddit thread where this is being widely discussed.
Hopefully, “The Winds of Winter” will release next year as soon as the creative muse inhabits GRRM once more.
