GRRM Has a New Twist for Winds of Winter that Won’t Be in the TV Show

Now that the HBO series, “Game of Thrones” has caught up and basically surpassed the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire of which it is based, some readers may be less enticed to read the forthcoming novel. (I mean let’s be real, this may not have happened had author George R.R. Martin not taken 5 plus years to write the upcoming novel “The Winds of Winter” which we still have no idea when it is coming out.)

However, GRRM has announced that he will be putting a “twist” in the upcoming final two novels that is a diversion from the series on HBO. He claims this diversion is because certain life-and-death plot changes in the show have already begun.

“It involves a couple of characters, one of whom is dead on the show but not dead in the books,” Martin said, in the course of the 25-minute interview with IGN. “The show can’t do this stuff, because they killed a character that I have not killed.”

It is hard to figure out who exactly may get the axe considering there are at least 15 characters who fit the description but as with most things there is a Reddit thread where this is being widely discussed.

Hopefully, “The Winds of Winter” will release next year as soon as the creative muse inhabits GRRM once more.

GRRM Hasn’t Figured Out the Exact Ending for ASOIAF

“Game of Thrones” and A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin, revealed recently that he has not yet decided how to end the popular series.  But don’t worry fans, he has an overall tone set for the final book in the series and with those ideas in mind, the HBO show will follow accordingly.

“I haven’t written the ending yet,” Martin said in an interview with the Observer when asked if the ending would be particularly dark. “I’ve said before that the tone of the ending that I’m going for is bittersweet,” he added.

GRRM said that the Lord of the Rings series provided some inspiration for A Song of Ice and Fire.

“It ends with victory, but it’s a bittersweet victory. Frodo is never whole again, and he goes away to the Undying Lands, and the other people live their lives,” he said. Martin says that’s exactly the sort of tone he’ll be aiming for with the Song of Ice and Fire ending.

When it comes to the HBO show, the producers have said many times that they know what to do if something happens and the book series is never completed. David Benioff, one of the main writers and producers, explained that they have had MANY conversations with GRRM about the show and the direction in which the books are heading. Benioff also explained that GRRM “makes a lot of stuff up as he’s writing it. Even while we talk to him about the ending, it doesn’t mean that that ending that he has currently conceived is going to be the ending when he eventually writes it.”

The sixth season of the HBO series is currently filming in Northern Ireland.

HBO Claims Jon Snow is “Dead-Dead” – Calling Their Bluff

Obviously, there are spoilers ahead for all of “Game of Thrones” and A Song of Ice and Fire. If you don’t want lots of fan theories and spoilers from the show and book. Don’t read this article.

Last season ended with the shocking death of Jon Snow. Fans yelled, cried, and went into denial. Jon was a pivotal character in almost every theory of how the Game would end. To some he represented the “Ice” in A Song of Ice and Fire and to others he was the rightful heir to Iron Throne due to being a Targaryen and a Stark, and to most he was one of the few virtuous characters left in a world full of terrible, evil people. Regardless of your theory, his death was a blow to the fandom.

Then, a magical thing happened, it seemed that his death was not the end of Jon Snow, or so many many fans started to believe as they found signs everywhere. Actor Kit Harrington showed up in Belfast where the show is filmed (we doubt he is just there to hang out while the show is filming), HBO has yet to release the official death poster for the character like they do for every other character once they bite it, and Harrington has yet to cut his signature Jon Snow locks that he is contractually obligated to keep while on the show. Not to mention, the show has moved past the books in certain aspects so Jon’s fate is currently unknown in the source material. All these signs began to point fans to the idea that Jon was destined to come back from the dead, something totally not unheard of in the series.

Unfortunately HBO decided to squash the rising tide of hope almost immediately. Last week HBO executive Michael Lombardo said that Jon is dead, really really dead.

“Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, he is dead,” Lombardo said on last Thursday during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.

Show producers also said that Jon is undoubtedly dead.

“We would hope that after seeing the scene and the way it’s shot that the answer to that will be unambiguous in the minds of the people watching it,” showrunner Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly, referring to season five’s final bloody scene. “It should be pretty clear what happens in by the time you’re done seeing that scene. It’s not an, ‘Oh what just happened scene?’”

Other than crushing the hopes and dreams of every single person who loves Jon Snow and “Game of Thrones,” we still don’t believe it. Fans are calling their bluff and I am one of them.

Jon Snow IS dead. I totally agree with that. Dead is Dead in the world of “Game of Thrones.” But that has NEVER stopped someone from coming back from the dead before. In the books, Catelyn comes back from the dead thanks to the Lord of Light (though HBO execs confirmed this won’t happen in the show) and obviously zombies type creatures, White Walkers, and other undead creatures are totally the norm.

So why can’t Jon return even if he is dead-dead?

There are several theories floating around but one of which I am a proponent. There is one person who has been known to bring people back from the dead and that one person conveniently rode into camp right before Jon Snow was killed. The Red Priestess.

I find it odd that she dips out of Stannis’ camp and arrives just in time for Jon to be killed. She arrived there for a reason, she looked him right in the eye. She knew something was up. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole time she was manipulating Stannis to do the actions she needed in order to get Jon where he needed to be. She knew all along that Jon was the true king but she needed Stannis to play his part and the only way he would do it is if he thought he had a greater purpose.

Death was a part of that plan. Stannis needed to die for Jon to rise up. Jon needed to die as Jon Snow the bastard of Stark; he needed to die to be released from his oath as a member of the Night’s Watch, and he needed be reborn as part of the flames – as a Targaryen.

So yes, HBO, dead is dead. Jon Snow is really dead. But Jon Targaryen has yet to live. I am calling your bluff.

Game of Thrones Star Aidan Gillen Narrates The Art of War

Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish also known by his real world name, Aidan Gillen, is about to make Sun Tzu military strategy book even cooler. The actor is narrating “The Art of War” exclusively on Audible, available today.

Gillen is one of the stars of popular series, “Game of Thrones” as Lord Baelish, the calculating Lord Protector of the Vale and former Master of Coin. Now, you can hear his intoxicating voice in Sun Tzu’s ancient Chinese military treatise.

Known as one of the definitive works on military tactics and strategy, The Art of War continues to have a profound impact on military thinking across the globe and its teachings have been employed in other fields such as business, politics, sports and law

“This was a fascinating book to narrate, with surprisingly apt insights into modern life on every page,” said Gillen. “And as an artistic endeavor, The Art of War was a natural progression from the Machiavellian strategist I play on television. It turns out Sun Tzu and Littlefinger have a lot in common.”

Original Plot for Game of Thrones Revealed

A three page letter has surfaced from George R.R. Martin to his publisher in 1993 revealing the original plot of “Game of Thrones” and what the author planned for it’s possible future.

The book retailer, Waterstones, took pictures of the letter though it has since been deleted. But this is the internet and nothing is ever really deleted so with some good detective work you can probably still find the pictures of the letter.

Regardless, it seems that while much of the original plot has been deviated from there are major bits that are (currently) still intact including five major characters that Martin had originally intended to survive the books since the very beginning.

:::: Spoilers for the book and show below ::::

Originally, according to the letter, Martin intended the A Song of Ice and Fire series to be a trilogy however as we all know that has not been the case for a long, long, time. Martin, had always intended to have Ned Stark die in the brutal way we see: discovering the truth about Jon Arryn’s murder and then being sentenced to death by Joffrey. There is one small difference in that Martin had meant to have Ned send Arya and Catelyn Stark out of King’s Landing before he was sentenced to death.

Here is where things start to get REALLY different from where we are today.

Martin had planned to have Robb fight Joffrey on the battlefield with the young king being maimed in the process. One of the biggest differences between what we have and what could have been is that Sansa would have arried Joffrey and born him a son and heir. Eventually, she would have had to make a choice between her Stark family and her husband and would end up coming down on the side of the Lannisters, before coming to bitterly regret this later.

Tyrion would have also been able to dethrone Joffrey finally with the death blow of Tywin being delivered by Jaime instead. Jaime would have then claimed the throne himself before blaming all his crimes on Tyrion who is  exiled and decides to ally himself with the Starks.

Arya and Jon Snow fall in love with each other up at the wall where Catelyn and her fled. They refuse to act on it because of the whole incest thing along with his Night’s Watch vow of celibacy. HOWEVER!! Martin says that this changes because of Jon’s parentage is revealed. Is this another hint to prove a very popular theory about Jon Snow’s parentage? Tyron also falls in love with Ayra adding a love triangle where Jon and Tyrion also loathe each other. Though, Ayra does not feel the same way for Tyrion.

The Starks are forced out of the Wall and they end up meeting Mance Rayder where Cat meets her death at the hands of one of the Others (also known as The White Walkers from the TV show.)

Don’t worry, Dany is still in Martin’s original draft. She invades Westerns sooner but only after killing Khal Drogo out of revenger for the death of her brother Viserys.

The final paragraph of the letter was blacked out so the ending is still a mystery but Martin did identify that the five character to survive where Dany, Arya, Jon, Bran, and, Tyrion.

There is no indication whether any of this will happen in the real series or if these five character will survive the book series now, but we can hope.

GRRM Offended By Those Who Think He Won’t Finish Series

george rr martin

A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin is not amused by those mere mortals who have such little faith in his writing prowess. yes, it’s true he isn’t Stephen King when it comes to pumping out novels but HE IS GOING TO FINISH THE SERIES PEOPLE!

The 65 year old writer has spent decades writing the famous series and fans are patiently awaiting the release of the last two novels in the series. But the author’s health is constant speculation that has led to assumptions that GRRM may die before the seventh book is complete.

GRRM, however, has two words for people who think he won’t live long enough to finish the last book: “Fuck you.”

He said in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger,

“I find that question pretty offensive, people speculating about my death and my health. So fuck you to those people.”

But fans of the series are quick to point out that they have experienced this exact scenario before (the late Robert Jordan devastated fans and left a series incomplete.)

But Martin is quick to remind you he is not your writing bitch so calm down everyone.

George R.R. Martin Says Some Fans Know How the Series Ends

According to George R.R. Martin, you might have already guessed how A Song of Ice and Fire will end. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the notoriously enigmatic author revealed that while he knows how the series will end, some fans have already figured it out as well.

He said that throughout the series he has hidden clues that are “extremely subtle and obscure,” and that only a couple of readers have found “the right solution.”

GRRM said,

“So many readers were reading the books with so much attention that they were throwing up some theories and while some of those theories were amusing bullshit and creative, some of the theories are right.”

Martin isn’t going to reveal what those clues are of course. We still have two more books to get through before all is revealed. Plus, he explained he wants to keep a surprise for those readers who don’t scour the internet trying to figure out how it will all end.

“Some of my readers who don’t read the boards, which thankfully there are hundreds of thousands of them, will still be surprised and other readers will say: ‘see, I said that four years ago, I’m smarter than you guys,'” he said.

So that theory you have been harboring since book one might be correct. But you’ll have to wait two more books to find out.

GRRM’s Editor Hints at Eighth “A Song of Ice and Fire” Book

george rr martin

If you thought you only had two books left to finish the greatest saga of all time, A Song of Ice and Fire, well, I have a mixed bag of news.

Series author, George R.R. Martin’s book editor has revealed that there maybe an EIGHTH book in the series.

Anne Groell recently participated in a live Q&A on the Suvudu Universe website about the HBO series based on the book as well as the written franchise from Martin.

When a fan asked,

“Do you think it will take GRRM more than seven books to finish ASOIAF?”

Groell replied enigmatically,

“I begin to wonder—though 7 is what we currently have under contract. I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was…well…no longer a trilogy. He predicted four books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he said five books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he went to six. I said… Well, you get it. Finally, we were on the same page. Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Good. Only, as I recently learned while editing The World of Ice and Fire (another awesome thing you must buy when it comes out!), there are really technically eight kingdoms, all having to do with who has annexed what when Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros. So, maybe eight books for Seven Kingdoms would be okay.”

Does this mean Martin is planning on a new book or that his editor is merely pushing for a final eighth book? We don’t know., but Groell promised that Martin is “hard at work” on the 6th book that we are anxiously awaiting.

Jane Johnson, Martin’s publisher in the U.K., told The Guardian,

“Only George knows how many books there will be in the series and he’s not saying…It feels as if there’s a lot to tie up in just two more novels—albeit very long novels—but if George continues to kill off characters in his usual ruthless fashion it could easily be over in the planned seven books!”

The World of Ice and Fire, which is set to be released on October 28, is a companion book to the series outlining the geography and history of Westeros.
