HBO Claims Jon Snow is “Dead-Dead” – Calling Their Bluff

Obviously, there are spoilers ahead for all of “Game of Thrones” and A Song of Ice and Fire. If you don’t want lots of fan theories and spoilers from the show and book. Don’t read this article.

Last season ended with the shocking death of Jon Snow. Fans yelled, cried, and went into denial. Jon was a pivotal character in almost every theory of how the Game would end. To some he represented the “Ice” in A Song of Ice and Fire and to others he was the rightful heir to Iron Throne due to being a Targaryen and a Stark, and to most he was one of the few virtuous characters left in a world full of terrible, evil people. Regardless of your theory, his death was a blow to the fandom.

Then, a magical thing happened, it seemed that his death was not the end of Jon Snow, or so many many fans started to believe as they found signs everywhere. Actor Kit Harrington showed up in Belfast where the show is filmed (we doubt he is just there to hang out while the show is filming), HBO has yet to release the official death poster for the character like they do for every other character once they bite it, and Harrington has yet to cut his signature Jon Snow locks that he is contractually obligated to keep while on the show. Not to mention, the show has moved past the books in certain aspects so Jon’s fate is currently unknown in the source material. All these signs began to point fans to the idea that Jon was destined to come back from the dead, something totally not unheard of in the series.

Unfortunately HBO decided to squash the rising tide of hope almost immediately. Last week HBO executive Michael Lombardo said that Jon is dead, really really dead.

“Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, he is dead,” Lombardo said on last Thursday during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.

Show producers also said that Jon is undoubtedly dead.

“We would hope that after seeing the scene and the way it’s shot that the answer to that will be unambiguous in the minds of the people watching it,” showrunner Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly, referring to season five’s final bloody scene. “It should be pretty clear what happens in by the time you’re done seeing that scene. It’s not an, ‘Oh what just happened scene?’”

Other than crushing the hopes and dreams of every single person who loves Jon Snow and “Game of Thrones,” we still don’t believe it. Fans are calling their bluff and I am one of them.

Jon Snow IS dead. I totally agree with that. Dead is Dead in the world of “Game of Thrones.” But that has NEVER stopped someone from coming back from the dead before. In the books, Catelyn comes back from the dead thanks to the Lord of Light (though HBO execs confirmed this won’t happen in the show) and obviously zombies type creatures, White Walkers, and other undead creatures are totally the norm.

So why can’t Jon return even if he is dead-dead?

There are several theories floating around but one of which I am a proponent. There is one person who has been known to bring people back from the dead and that one person conveniently rode into camp right before Jon Snow was killed. The Red Priestess.

I find it odd that she dips out of Stannis’ camp and arrives just in time for Jon to be killed. She arrived there for a reason, she looked him right in the eye. She knew something was up. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole time she was manipulating Stannis to do the actions she needed in order to get Jon where he needed to be. She knew all along that Jon was the true king but she needed Stannis to play his part and the only way he would do it is if he thought he had a greater purpose.

Death was a part of that plan. Stannis needed to die for Jon to rise up. Jon needed to die as Jon Snow the bastard of Stark; he needed to die to be released from his oath as a member of the Night’s Watch, and he needed be reborn as part of the flames – as a Targaryen.

So yes, HBO, dead is dead. Jon Snow is really dead. But Jon Targaryen has yet to live. I am calling your bluff.

“Veep” and “Silicon Valley Renewed at HBO

HBO has officially renewed two of the most crass , vulgar, hilarious, and amazing shows on the network. “Veep” and “Silicon Valley” will return next year for new seasons!

The shows were picked up for new seasons early; only a day after their season premieres this week.  HBO programming president, Michael Lombardo, announced the renewal yesterday saying,

Veep and Silicon Valley are terrific series, and I’m immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year. Along with Game of Thrones and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, both of which have already been renewed for 2016, they give HBO a stellar Sunday night like no other.”

“Veep” stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and will return for a fifth season next year. Unfortunately, the fifth season will return without its series creator, Armando Iannuci, who announced that he was stepping down as showrunner last week. “Curb Your Enthusiasm’s” David Mandel will take over on the White House comedy.

“Silicon Valley” comes from Mike Judge and Alec Berg. It was renewed for third season. The first season was incredibly well received and even earned an Emmy nomination.

Vince Vaughn Talks Second Season of True Detective

Apple Store Soho Presents Meet The Actor: Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn, perpetual cartoon character, recently spoke to Playboy about the upcoming season of “True Detective” where he is one of the main leads.

Vaughn will appear in the second season as Frank Seymon, whose business partner is murdered while he attempts to legitimize his criminal empire. Season two will take place in Los Angeles in stark contrast to season one’s Louisiana. The actor  told Playboy that the new season will have a very different tone than what fans got in the first one.

“I really like my character,” Vaughn stated. “Nic [Pizzolatto] is so great about investigating characters and their complexities in an authentic and engaging way. I want to watch this show not because I’m in it but as a fan of the material.”

Season two also features Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Rachel McAdams in lead roles.

Sarah Silverman to Star in HBO Comedy Pilot

Sarah Silverman has reportedly signed on to star in the currently untitled pilot for HBO. According to a report from Variety, she will play “a pathologically honest woman having a modern mid-life crisis.”

The comedy series will be scripted by Lucy Prebble who is most known for her work on “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.” She will executive produce with Silverman, Ash Atalla, Amy Zvi and Dan Hine.

Silverman previously starred in three seasons of “The Sarah Silverman Program” for Comedy Central, and has had guest spots on shows like “Masters of Sex,” “Louie” and “The Simpsons.” She has also co-starred in Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West and provided the voice of a main character in the Disney hit Wreck-It Ralph. Most recently, she had a starring role in the drama I Smile Back, about a wife and mother who succumbs to drug addiction, which will debut at next month’s Sundance Film Festival.

As for her relationship with HBO, she had a comedy special on the network titled, “Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles,” for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.

There is no word yet on when the series will go into production or an anticipated release date.

Taylor Kitsch Confirms True Detective Role

A few weeks ago, three out of four of the main cast was confirmed for season 2 of “True Detective.” Now, the final member has been confirmed y way of Taylor Kitsch joining Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and reportedly Rachel McAdams.

His casting has been rumored just as long as the others but was only confirmed this week. Kitsch said,

“I’m really excited. I’ve just been prepping. It’s been almost a full year since I’ve been on camera, so I’m itching, man. I’m overdue,” Kitsch said. “You’ve just got to grind it out. Even taking this year off was, I mean you want to work, but you also don’t want to just water it down and work for the sake of working. So, it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True.”

Season 2 focuses on three police officers and a career criminal as they navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Production for season 2 is set to begin this fall in Los Angeles. The first two episodes will be directed by Justin Lin. Kitsch has said that the episodes will have an “old school vibe.”

The new season of True Detective is estimated to air in the summer of 2015.

HBO To Launch Stand-Alone Service in 2015

Our dreams are coming true! After much, MUCH begging, HBO is finally going to offer a stand-alone service to consumers in 2015.

The news was announced on Wednesday by the network and chairman/ CEO Richard Plepler. The decision reportedly came after they discussed the fact that there are about 10 million “broadband only” households in the United States. Plepler said,

“That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped,” Plepler said in a press release. “It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO. So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners. And, we will explore models with new partners. All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them.”

Many fans of HBO shows like “Game of Thrones” were forced to resort to pirating the series because they either didn’t have cable or couldn’t afford the high price of adding the channel to their service.

There is no word yet on how much the standalone service will cost monthly but hopefully somewhere around the same price that Netflix charges for their instant service.

John Oliver’s Talk Show Ratings Edging Out HBO Colleague Bill Maher

John Oliver is a hit with, well everyone with HBO. His sunday night show on HBO, “Last Week Tonight” has become one of the most popular weekly news recap series on air currently as he has begun edging out fellow news host political veteran Bill Maher in HBO ratings.

“Last Week Tonight” has been airing for five months and has been averaging roughly 4.1 million weekly viewers across TV airings and DVR, on-demand and HBO Go plays. That puts Oliver’s show narrowly ahead of Real Time With Bill Maher‘s 4 million weekly viewers, according to HBO. Oliver’s show is even beating out his old buddy’s show “The Colbert Report” despite having the terrible timeslot of 11 pm on a Sunday evening.

Segment’s from Oliver’s show are worldwide internet hits as well on their own. They average millions of views on YouTube as soon as they are posted immediately following airing on television.

It doesn’t seem like Oliver and his weekly commentary will be headed anywhere just yet especially if he continues to out perform HBO veterans.

Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn Join True Detective

We finally have almost all our leads for season 2 of “True Detective” on HBO. It was announced earlier this week that Colin Farrell had secured a role, then later in the week it was revealed that both Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams has joined the cast in the lead roles.

According to Variety, Taylor Kitsch is likely to be cast in the final slot for the four person main cast.

Season 3 will follow three police officers and career criminal as they navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

McAdams’ role has not been revealed but Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vaughn will play the career criminal who is dangerously close to losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Season 2 will have eight episodes. Production is expected to begin later this fall. The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto.

Colin Farrell Confirmed for Season 2 of True Detective

We had heard rumors for months regarding the cast for the upcoming second season of HBO’s “True Detective” and finally it has been confirmed that Colin Farrell will officially be starring in the next installment.

Farrell told the Irish paper, Sunday World, that was in fact going to be one of the lead cast members of the highly anticipated series. Unfortunately, he did not release the names of the other starring cast members.

He said,

“I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot,” he said. “I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”

Some of the other actors that are rumored to currently be in consideration for roles are Elisabeth Moss, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch are all rumored to be interested or involved in some way.

What we do know is that there will be three leads in season 2 according to show creator Nic Pizzolatto. He also said there will be a female lead. Here’s hoping it is Elisabeth Moss!
