PS Plus Will Offer Two PS4 Games a Month Starting June

PS Plus

Beginning this June in Europe and North America, PS4 owners will be able to get 2 games a month if you are a PlayStation Plus member.

Unfortunately, there is another change to be on the lookout for.

According to a post in the PS Blog, starting in July, games will be available for slightly less time, from the first Wednesday of the month right up until the first Wednesday of the following month. Sony justifies this by explaining most gamers are downloading the titles right away, but in effect this means you may not have access to as many titles on PS3 as you once did.

“Since we are always looking to continue the evolution of PS Plus as a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games each month within the Instant Game Collection,” it reads. “As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will now have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms. “Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Wednesday of the month, and will be free for that month, until the first Wednesday of the following month.”

Regardless, moving forward…

The two titles coming to PS4 in Europe this June are “Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate” and “Trine 2: The Complete Story.” The first is a quirky twin-stick shooter that blends blasting with puzzle-solving, while the second is a beautiful puzzler set in a fairy tale world.

PS3 owners will get”NBA 2K14″ alongside the psychological survival horror “Lone Survivor.”

In North America, gamers will also get “Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate” and “Trine 2: Complete Story” on PS4, along with “NBA 2K14” on PS3, but the rest of the offerings are a little bit different.

PS3 owners in North America can will also get “Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time,” while US Vita owners have “Terraria” and “Mutant Mudds Deluxe.”

“Never Alone” Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The puzzle-platform game, “Never Alone” is set to release this autumn on PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $14.99. The news was announced by Upper One Games.

“Never Alone” explores the culture and folklore of Alaska natives. In the game, players take the role of a young Iñupiaq girl called Nuna, and her arctic fox companion. The game brings together a beautiful aesthetic with stories, characters and folklore that have long been circulated in Alaska Native cultures.

Gameplay will see you switching between Nuna and the fox to complete levels and various puzzles. In co-op mode, players will each control one of the character. “Never Alone” will feature eight chapters with Native folklore characters such as Manslayer, Blizzard Man, Sky People, the Little People and the Rolling Heads all appearing.

The Last of Us on PS4 Uses More Detailed Character Models

Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog Games has revealed that the remastered edition of “The Last of Us” on the PlayStation 4 will display character models closer to high-fidelity.

“We don’t build it with high assets in mind to then port it, but it did give us a leg up,” Druckmann told the publication which is available now in print and digitally. “If we hadn’t done that, we might not have made the call to bring it over to PS4.”

He also explained that in order to bring the celebrated game to the PS4, the team has to start from scratch with an entirely different architecture.

“Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch. It’s interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is ‘Can we fit all this on the disc?'”

Thankfully for those who already own the game on the PS3 will be entitled to get the game on PS4 for a discount.

“The Last of Us Remastered” is scheduled for release in the third or fourth quarter of 2014.

The Last of Us Remastered Coming to PS4 Summer 2014

“The Last of Us” (also known as one of the greatest games ever made) will be released on the PlayStation 4 this summer in a “Remastered” edition. The news was confirmed by Sony earlier this week.

According to PlayStation community strategist Arne Meyer,

“Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements. We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans. We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.”

All the major content that has been released since the game launched in June 2013 will be included and an exclusive director’s commentary for all the in-game cinematics will be included as well. The commentary will feature Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.

For players that preorder The Last of Us Remastered for PS4 from stores will receive the following extras:

  • 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode

  • Early Access to additional Loadout Points for use in Factions mode

HBO GO Coming to PS3 and Eventually PS4

HBO GO is finally coming to the PlayStation systems. Sony PlayStation and HBO jointly announced that they have partnered in a plan to bring the network’s streaming service to the PS3 and eventually to the PS4.

HBO GO is the channel’s streaming app that (unfortunately) requires an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider. Though with it you can watch unlimited, on-demand access to shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Boardwalk Empire” and the just-premiered “True Detective.” HBO GO offers every episode of every season of the network’s popular shows as well as hit movies, sports, documentaries, and comedy specials and behind-the-scenes extras.

Currently, there is no projected timeline on when the service will be available.

Now, if only they would provide the service as a pay for subscription, I would give them so much money.

More Than One Million PlayStation 4 Units Sold in the First 24 Hours

The next generation in console gaming is officially here as the Sony PlayStation 4 hit shelves last week. Sony Computer Entertainment have announced that the PS4 has sold more than one million units during the first 24 hours after it became available on November 15, 2013 in the United States and Canada.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. said,

“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

The PS4 launch featured highly anticipated games such as “Killzone Shadow Fall,” “Knack,” “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag,” “NBA 2K14” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts.”

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Announced

A brand-new “Lord of the Rings” inspired video game is on the way. “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,” is a next-gen, third-person action game that promises an “original, dark story of retribution”.

The game is in development for both current generation and next generation consoles including PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 at Monolith. Gamers will play as a ranger whose family was slain by Sauron’s armies. Having been killed himself, he’s resurrected with “Wraith abilities”, and is ready to take on the Mordor hordes. The story involves the Rings of Power but otherwise seems totally separate from Lord of the Rings canon, though Warner promises it will align.

Warner’s Samantha Ryan said,

“Players will explore the dark and very personal theme of vengeance in a world where decisions have a consequence, and those consequences persist even after death… The game introduces new gameplay mechanics to the action genre, creating opportunities for emergent and customized gameplay that will be rewarding for players.”

What makes this game unique is the enemy system. “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” differentiates every enemy in the game according to personality, strengths and weaknesses.

“Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session,” claims Warner’s press release. “Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.”

There’s no release window yet, but IGN predicts a 2015 release.
